* Please be aware that there might be additional costs when ordering from international locations such as customs excise duty, please note this cost will have to be absorbed by the customer.
For international deliveries, if you do not receive an item, then we reserve the right to ask you to wait 28 working days before we re-dispatch the item. Things have a curious tendency to turn up just after you complained that they had got lost.
Please also note that we are unable to deliver to PO, APO, or FPO box addresses. We want to be able to deliver all of our products to every country in the world, but unfortunately at this moment it’s not possible. This is usually due to bizarre shipping restrictions and we are doing everything in our power to improve this. (Honestly, the only thing the Stockton & Darlington Railway wouldn’t ship was livestock and they changed their minds about that!) So, in the meantime please take advantage of those products we DO ship to your lovely country.
Delivery Attempts (include if using signed for delivery)
Delivery is via a signature on delivery service. If the recipient is out when our courier calls they will leave a card asking the recipient to make contact to arrange a second delivery attempt.
Two weekday delivery attempts are included in the delivery charge. Subsequent delivery attempts and address re-directions after despatch are chargeable. If the recipient fails to make contact with the courier in good time, the goods will be automatically returned to The Railway Station and a charge will be made for the return and re-delivery of the goods to the original or alternative address. The purchaser will also be charged for any items which have become unsuitable for sale and need replacing.
At point of order the purchaser can leave ‘if out’ instructions to be attached to the goods e.g. If out please leave with neighbour. The Railway Station cannot be held responsible for damage or theft of goods where an ‘if out’ instruction has been issued by the purchaser.
If you are sending one of our products as a gift, we would advise that you call the recipient to let them know to expect a delivery. Some customers find it helpful to send hampers to the recipient’s work address.
Exclusions
We reserve the right to refuse any International orders on the basis of a particular country’s customs and prohibitions which do vary from time to time.
Customs
The Railway Station cannot be held responsible should local customs authorities wish to confiscate any item contained within your parcel or charge any import duty. This is unfortunately outside of our control and as such, you, the customer, will be responsible for any such charges.
Fresh Foods
We will not send any fresh items overseas as the variable delivery timescales mean we cannot guarantee that fresh items will not perish in transit.
Returns Policy
It is the policy of The Railway Station to ensure that all our goods are supplied to our customers in perfect condition and that every possible precaution is taken to protect the integrity of the product that is sold. To this end, we do not exchange food, beverage or any other item that has come into contact with the person. This policy does not affect your statutory rights.

Our Environmental Approach to Packaging and Production
Recyclable, reusable or compostable
As a new business we are trying to be as environmentally friendly as possible at the outset. We have devoted a lot of time to getting our packaging as sustainable as possible. We try to ensure that our packaging is either recyclable, reusable or compostable.
We have two kinds of packaging. First there is the packaging designed to contain and enhance your purchase. Most of our products will arrive in either a recyclable/ reusable kraft box or a cotton or hessian bag. Some products have polyethene wrappers (such as greetings cards) because they have either come from the supplier like that, we have found no alternative yet, or it is in fact a compostable cellulose. We are working with our suppliers to improve where polythene or plastics are used.
The second type of packaging is designed to protect your purchase while it is in the post. Most of our packaging is recyclable cardboard, but we also need to fill gaps in boxes with protective materials. We use wood wool or similar which can be composted. We also reuse packaging that has been sent to us so you might find bubble wrap, foam fillers or foam protective slips but so far we haven’t bought it – we reuse it. We do use brown paper as a protective cover or crushed to fill gaps in packaging and this can be recycled or reused. We have bought polythene wrappers which are for particularly awkward shaped products that must be kept watertight (large framed prints). We will continue to source alternatives to this and use it sparingly.
When we work with designers to produce bespoke products for the Railway Station, we check that the materials used are sustainable. So, all products made of timber are sustainably sourced and FSC graded. We have refused to stock foodstuffs that contain palm oil and our toiletries only use sustainable palm oil and even that is due to be replaced shortly. The majority of our suppliers are small family firms and like us they are keen to keep their carbon footprint as small as possible and continually look at ways of doing this.
